Bloggers and home cooks Emily and Lyla Allen take their style of cooking to other teenagers in their new book, "The Teen Kitchen."

The twins got their own blog at age 9, test marketed "Make Your Own Kale Chips" kits and have appeared on "The Rachael Ray Show," "Chopped Junior," "Today," "Kid Food Nation" and American Girl Magazine.

With plenty of photos, tips and fun, their new cookbook is appealing to teenagers. When I handed it off to my own teenager, she immediately started flipping through and marking the recipes she wanted to try. Seeing a cookbook written by teenagers for teenagers is a definite win.

The recipes are divided into 6 chapters: Breakfasts, Snacks, Soups, Salads and Sides, Entrees, Desserts and Drinks and Smoothies.

Breakfasts include recipes like PB&J Breakfast Bars, Open-Faced Quesadilla with Fried Egg and Sweet Crumb-Topped Blueberry Muffins.

Snacks includes recipes for Cheesy Panko Crisps, Spring Rolls with Sesame Ginger Dipping Sauce and Chocolate Cranberry Almond Bars.

Soups, Salads and Sides offer Creamy, Crunchy Tortilla Soup, Crisp Chopped Salad with Honey Vinaigrette and Twice-Baked Potatoes.

Entrees include dishes like Pumpkin Wonton Raviolis, Cheesy Rice Cakes and Mediterranean Stuffed Peppers.

Desserts offer Deep Dark Chocolate Pudding, Pineapple Upside-Down Carrot Cake and Nutty Oatmeal Cookies.

Drinks and Smoothies have drinks such as Berry Blast Smoothie, Perfect Pumpkin Spice Au Lait and Watermelon Fresca.

The very first thing my teen wanted to try out was the Carrot Cake Pancakes. She and I worked together to peel and shred the carrots, and then we mixed up the pancake ingredients. She at first was hesitant to pour the batter onto the griddle, but soon got the hang of it, though she wanted me to do the flipping. In the end, she and I both loved them topped with a bit of unsweetened applesauce. They made perfect little silver dollar pancakes and we had plenty of leftovers for her to heat up and eat for breakfast for several days in a row. She says she wants to make more out of the book and I can't wait to see what is next.

"The Teen Kitchen" is published by Ten Speed Press. It is $19.99.
